This unique and enriching class will be taught and instructed by John Gallis. A native of Long Island, John established a lucrative career building custom cabinetry for Bloomingdale’s before moving west to Cody, Wyoming. He worked for a local furniture maker in town before opening Norseman Designs West, where he created his own line of award-winning high-end western furniture. John gains inspiration from nature and by studying the work of the masters, from Shaker to Stickley, from Art Nouveau to Cody’s own Thomas Molesworth.
John will be teaching a class in traditional wooden spoon making. Every participant will hand make a wooden spoon, if time permits an additional spatula will be done as well. Attendees will explore the different methods and techniques of fabricating a utensil of wood. Proper use of machines, tools and safety will be taught. Discussion will include how to finish these utensils and proper care and use for the items. No experience necessary. Class will begin at 10:30am and end at 4pm, lunch will be provided.
