About this piece

A Masterpiece of Artistry & Heritage

This one-of-a-kind handcrafted chest is a testament to decades of artistry, history, and craftsmanship. Featuring solid poplar construction with walnut veneer panels, it is fully wrapped in high-relief, hand-tooled saddle leather—a technique meticulously developed over 23 years.

Intricate Celtic knots, Red Deer Stags, and historical motifs from 13th-century Caerlaverock Castle adorn the chest, with the lid showcasing a breathtaking Highlands hunting scene in 17th-18th century etching style. Complemented by hand-forged iron hardware, including Celtic-style strap hinges and handles, this piece merges old-world elegance with modern versatility.

Perfect for a home, hunting lodge, castle, or historic setting, this chest can be customized for various uses—a luxury storage piece, a roll-out bar, a rifle cabinet, or a striking room divider. A true symbol of heritage, strength, and freedom, this work of art belongs in a space as grand as its story.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

A leather artist for 45 years, Chris has spent much of her career involve in historical research and reproduction work dating back to 16th century European leatherwork, clothing, and artifacts. She has created museum quality reproductions of Native American and Early American garments and artifacts, including bead and quill work. After the birth of her daughter, Chapman decided to focus her talents on the creation of leather bonded furniture, architectural elements, and home accessories. Her work brings a fresh perspective to the medium, which she finds incredibly versatile in that she can adapt it to nearly any time period, style, and design from Victorian, Western and Spanish Territorial, to Old English and Art Deco.
