Ask the ArtisanAnne Beard’s pair of hand-appliquéd and embroidered footrests, are incredibly detailed and beautifully finished, with hand-selected detail and thoughtful design from start to finish. Anne draws her designs by hand, to create the pattern, carefully chooses wool gabardine and embroidery thread to coordinate, and appliques each piece by hand. This pair of footrests is accented with embossed tan leather and decorative nail heads. The vibrant red wool Anne chose for “Cowgirl Up & Cowboy Up,” reminds us of trade cloth and will provide a warm pop of color and an invitation to put your feet up and enjoy some rest after a day in the saddle. The brands that appear around the cowgirl and cowboy, are reminiscent of those Anne used on her award-winning smoking jacket, on view in By Western Hand’s Museum and Switchback Ranch Award Collection of Western American Art.
Anne grew up on a mountain ranch in Washington and lived on the Oregon high desert for the past twenty years. This region’s traditional lifestyles infuse her work with western character. A veteran of her craft, Anne’s fashion background is apparent in her appliqued upholstered furniture designs that range from tailored ottomans to nature-inspired armchairs. Anne was inspired by her mother, an award winning fiber artist and her brother, a custom woodworker. She admires and appreciates the entire range of western craft and often integrates it into her designs.
Blending the individual expression and functional practicality characteristic of the western legacy, I create one-of-a-kind upholstered furnishings for the contemporary lifestyle.
