Ask the ArtisanThe invention of this mesmerizing fire maker had its debut in 1905 by a man that bares the name of this piece. After 119 years it has never been conceived as furniture or even art! But as a safe and fun science experiment! This example you see today is a mix of old technology , new design and years of joinery in furniture building. The elements of this piece is of ebonized “black walnut” that was harvested off the beach of the Oregon coast. The graining of thw wood was a result of the constant wind that would bend the trees enough to stress the growth rings to leave it as marbled. The panels are made of “Russian Olive” that is used as the western homesteaders tree of choice, these trees were planted for wind break, soil retention and shade for the home and livestock. Each leg and support pands for the glass top are made of “Jatoba” because of its extreme strength and heat tolerance. As you look closely at the details that can be seen through the glass you will find hand written arrow heads to leave you a reminder of the first residence of the great west.
