About this piece

This cloak is a reproduction of a traditional piece that could be worn by a male or female. This piece would be highly seen as a treasured piece of clothing. The butterfly is a strong symbol in the Apache tribe. Often seen today on the Crown Dancers outfits. The 365 hand rolled and aged jingles would sound very strong in any dance. Beaded and sewn by hand.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Supaya’s education comes from living on different reservations, Cherokee reservation, Pine Ridge South Dakota Lakota reservation, and the Navajo reservation in Arizona. Learning from elders, seeing and sharing old designs, listening and learning old stories. It was and is a good school for the heart. All her artwork is inspired by her time on the reservations.
